Project Overview
Filmed in Agua Azul, Mexico, this short documentary created in connection with the Skindigenous series tells the story of a community responding to dramatic changes in the river and natural landscape that are central to their home, culture, and livelihood.
Through the perspective of Alberto López Urbina, president of the local tourism organization, the film documents what happened when the flow of water through Agua Azul was dramatically disrupted. Faced with a landscape that had suddenly changed, members of the community came together, mobilizing people, heavy equipment, and local resources in an effort to redirect the water and restore an area deeply connected to their way of life.
Through personal testimony and observational documentary cinematography, the film moves between the remarkable natural beauty of Agua Azul and the physical work undertaken by the people who call the region home. Rather than simply documenting an environmental challenge, the story focuses on the resilience, ingenuity, and determination of a community taking action to protect a place that sustains them.
Created for APTN, the project gave Orange House Media the opportunity to bring an intimate documentary approach to an international production, placing the people, environment, and lived experience at the centre of the story.
